Vietnam sentences 3 men for anti-state propaganda

A Vietnamese court on Friday handed down jail terms of 2-5 years on three local men on charges of propagandizing against the state, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The People's Court in southern Ho Chi Minh City gave instigator Pham Ba Hai, 40, five years, Nguyen Ngoc Quang, 44, three years, and Vu Hoang Hai, 43, two years in jail.

According to the verdict, the three men from the city embroiled some other people to establish a reactionary organization called Bach Dang Giang from April to August 2006, said the agency.

They made and posted to the Internet many documents propagandizing the country's distorted history, stimulating elements to oppose and libel the government, and smearing state and party leaders.

Their activities were very serious, trespassing the national security, and running counter to the state construction and development cause, said the court.
