Subversives jailed in HCMC

Posted on APRIL 26, 2008 Written by A Ho Chi Minh court Friday slapped jail terms up to five years on three members of an anti-government group busted in Vietnam in 2006.
Ringleader Pham Ba Hai of the Bach Dang Giang Group was arrested in northern Thai Binh Province in September 2006.
Hai was jailed for five years while his henchmen, Nguyen Ngoc Quang and Vu Hoang Hai, got three and two years in prison respectively for distributing subversive materials.
The court ruled in 2001, when working in India, Pham Ba Hai connived with his two henchmen in Vietnam to publish subversive material on the Internet to instigate many students to plot against the Vietnamese government.
At the court, the group denied anti-government activities but the court said there was solid evidence to convict them.
